The title is from the cast bronze pieces in this artwork. They are cast directly from pieces of armadillo shell that my dog drags out of the woods to chew on. Armadillo Dreams is about waking up at night hearing armadillos in your yard or garden. The first time I heard an armadillo outside my window I thought it must be a bear, it was making so much noise moving the leaves around on the ground. Some gardeners have said this should be "Armadillo Nightmare". Waking up like this happened to me years ago when the critters were devastating my garden. I grabbed a .22 rifle and flashlight and headed outside in my bathrobe. When I got to the garden I saw the armadillo clamber over the short fence and into the woods. So I checked for the North Star for my bearings as I headed into the woods after him. I saw and heard the armadillo several times but never got a good shot. By then I was a couple hundred yards into the woods but couldn't see the sky anymore because of the leaves on the trees and didn't know exactly where I was or what direction to go. So I headed uphill knowing the pond would be that direction and I would come out of the woods near the pond. I lost my bathrobe belt in the encounter and had a few scratches from the briars but otherwise the adventure was kind of like a dream.
