Mixed Media Sculpture, glass, steel, wood, granite, 36" height, 29" width, 9" depth.
Illusions refers to the figured maple wood used in this sculpture, the glass blocks, and the clear ball feet. This work is a reaction to "fake news", lies, , distortions, and obfuscations that have become so common in the political arena. The wood grain is so figured that it doesn't look like a flat surface and becomes an illusionistic space. The glass feet act like lenses and turn things viewed through them upside down. The glass blocks are transparent but have different textures on each side so one has to investigate to figure out what reality is. Some of the textures distort the textures on the opposite side similar to how one political party distorts what the other party says. All the things we used to know, they’re an illusion to me now.
