Minimal, Mixed Media, Environmental Sculpture.
Reusing and recycling is an important part of this Chaos series of works and many of my sculptures.
The vertical metal piece in this sculpture is from some scrap metal left over from making the vent hood above my glass furnace. The glass pieces are from the new chalcedony glass I made in fall of 2019. The metal piece that holds the glass is some kind of tie rod or connecting arm from an old piece of machinery. The limestone is from the quarry north of Eureka Springs. The metal and glass parts of this are attached to the stone by a single metal rod so the entire assembly can pivot.
The pencil marks on the yellow ochre side of the metal are from laying out the cuts to make the new vent hood at the Clinton studio.
I really like the way the metal is rusted in comparison to the gray metal above. That is because this metal was part of my old Osage studio vent hood. The rust is from the area directly above the furnace vent where heat and chemicals from melting glass deteriorated the metal
