First Friday Artwalk this Friday August 1 at AR Collective gallery in Conway, AR. Part of this sculpture was found on the property of my wife’s ancestors who lived near Capitan, New Mexico. We had passed through the White Sands area on our way to Capitan.
Eighty years ago on in a stretch of southern New Mexico desert called the Jornada del Muerto—the journey of death, the U.S. Army detonated the first atomic bomb.
The bomb's aftermath later caused rare forms of cancer for over 30,000 people in the area of the White Sands Missile Base.
